Types of Industrial Thermocouples

Different types of extensions are available depending on the requirements and accessibility of the measuring point offered in type 1 nipple-union-nipple, type 2 union-nipple, type 3 nipple, and type 4 connection head only. The extensions allow access to the element for easy replacement and come in galvanized or stainless steel. Spring loading is also an option to ensure the sensing tip is in positive contact with the bottom of the wells.

Replacement Element – BT Style

BT style replacement elements are offered from twisted or butt welded junctions, single or dual elements, round oval insulators, or without ceramic insulators to replace BW style assemblies and protection tubes. Available in ASTM E 230 with types J or K, 8, 14, or 20 AWG gauge. These BT-style replacement elements are capable of temperatures up to 2300ºF or 1260ºC.

Industrial Beaded Thermocouple Assembly – BW Style

BW style industrial beaded thermocouples are designed to mate with a pipe well or ceramic tube. These assemblies include nipples and pipe unions to mate with connection heads to protect the sensor. Available in ASTM E 230 J or K, 8 gauge, 14 gauge, or 20 gauge and comes with twisted or butt welded junctions with round or oval insulators.

Industrial Mineral Insulated Thermocouple Assembly – MW Style

 MW-style industrial thermocouples feature sheathed MgO thermocouples and are designed to mate with a thermowell including a spring-loaded feature to ensure contact with the well bottom. Nipples and a pipe union are mated with connection heads to protect the sensor. Available in ASTM E 230 type J, K, T, or N in .125”, .188”, or .250” diameters in single or duplex. Also comes with 304, 310, 316 stainless steel or alloy 600 sheath materials.

Industrial Mineral Insulated Thermocouple Replacement – ML Style

ML-style thermocouple replacements are insulated MgO probe replacements for MW industrial assemblies. Featuring a spring for spring loading the sensor, these are beneficial for effective loading into the bottom of a thermowell. Available in ASTM E 230 type J, K, T, or N in .125”, .188”, or .250” diameters in either single or duplex. Sheath materials come with 304, 310, 316, or alloy 600 stainless steel.
